In just a few short minutes,
as you browse these pages, you may learn the greatest news you have ever
heard! ...Most people think that if they work hard enough at being
a good person, go to church, obey the golden rule, the ten commandments
or do something to please God He will let them into heaven. "Perhaps,"
we reason, "my good works will out-weigh my wrong doings." Here is
the greatest news you have ever heard!
Heaven is a free gift!
"...the GIFT of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus
our Lord."

 Heaven
can not be earned nor is it deserved.
If on your birthday, a relative of yours (father, mother, son, daughter)
were to give you an expensive present - like a very nice watch, you probably
would not reach into your pocket book, pull out a $20 to help pay for it.
Of course not! It's your birthday. You were given a GIFT!
But in fact, if you pulled
out a $20 or something as small as a $1 bill or even a penny, you could
tell all your friends, "Look what ___________ and I bought!" You
only paid a penny, but now it is no longer strictly a gift, it is something
you paid for - if only partially. The same is true with eternal life.
If you do anything at all in an attempt to gain the gift, it is no longer
a gift but instead it must be paid for in full.
"By grace you have been
saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the GIFT of God,
NOT BY WORKS, so that no man can boast."
Ephesians 2:8-9
