How can I grow deeper?
|
|
Want
to grow? God is big enough.
|
| I have often asked myself, "What
makes a person tick? What motivates a person to live as he does?"
The answer is about as simple as the ABC's. It's in what or whom
he loves. Love motivates. So what is the secret of a deep,
spiritual Christian life? A simple answer... Love for God...
love for Jesus. Here is the wellspring of the Christian life:
Foster a passionate love for God and the rest will follow!
"And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength, this is the greatest commandment. " Mark 12:30
Growth is the result of a simple
decision to love and follow Jesus no matter what. Here is how it's
done:
With all your HEART - emotionally. Pour emotion and passion into your relationship.
Yearn to know him. Love God passionately
With every breath you have, Love Jesus.
Pray earnestly to know him. Love God deeply
With every thought, put him first.
Study seriously to know him. Love God intellectually
Put all your energy into loving him.
Work to know him. Love God diligently
You want to know where to start?
Begin here. Pour an earnest, thoughtful, passionate effort into loving
God and you will Grow Deep. The bottom line is to begin each day
with God. Constantly and earnestly tell him you love him. Thoughtfully
listen to what he has to say to you from his word and respond immediately.
Express your love for Him verbally. Let others know how much Jesus
means to you. In every situation, all day long whisper to Him about
every decision and activity you have. End every day with some time
alone with Him.
There is a story about a flock of barnyard geese in Denmark. Every Sunday the geese would gather in the barnyard near the feeding trough. One of their number, a "preaching goose," would struggle up on the top rail of the fence and exhort the geese about the glories of goosedom. He would tell them how wonderful it was to be a goose, rather than a chicken or a turkey. He would remind them of their great heritage and tell them of the marvelous possibilities in the future.
But then the wild gees would disappear from sight, their honkings echoing across the horizon. The barnyard geese would look around at their comfortable surroundings, sigh, and return to the mud and filth of the barn. They never did fly! Sadly there are many Christians who remain the barnyard, rather than spread their wings and learn to fly. God has a purpose for you! God's highest purpose for us is to grow to flying maturity. The following pages give you six tools to help you accomplish the task of GROWTH... as long as you focus on one thing... LOVE THE LORD WITH ALL YOUR HEART... "O God, bring to life every power within me, that I may lay hold of eternal things. Open my heart and fill it with intense love for you. Enable me to taste you and to know how good your are. Make yourself more real to me than any earthly thing has ever been." Amen |
