Trust God for every detail of your life

God has a wonderful plan for your life and he wants you to know it and enjoy it.  It is called "The Will of God."  One of my favorite verses in the Bible comes from Jeremiah 29:11... "I know the plans that I have for you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope."  God is not a Celestial Killjoy leaning over the balcony of heaven shouting, "Cut that out!" every time we have a little fun, ready to squash all joy the instant it happens.  Not at all.  Instead the Word is replete with statements that comfort and encourage us to follow God's will because of the great reward of it.

"Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart." Psalms 37:4

"I have come to give you life and give it more abundantly."  John 10:10

"All things work together for the good of those who love God and are the called according to his purpose."  Romans 8:28

"Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us."  Ephesians 3:20

These promises are all conditioned on our response to God.  If we delight in Him.... He will give us the desires of our heart.  We must follow His will to be truely happy.  There are two aspects to the will if God.  #1  The unknown will of God... where should I work, whom should I marry, which home should I buy etc, and #2 The known will of God as found in his word.  In His Word we find everything we need for life and godliness.  If we follow the known will of God he will lead us step by step to discover the unknown will of God.  God always leads us in obedience.  If we don't obey the plain truths from the Word, we can not expect Him to direct our ways.  When we trust and obey we can expect his guidance.

The Psalmist expressed it this way.  "Your word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path."  Psalms 119:105.  In the Middle Eastern culture of the day in which this was written, when someone would walk outside at night it was customary to affix a "lamp" to the sandal of the foot so that when walking in the dark he could see one step ahead to keep from tripping or stepping on a poisonous snake or some other hazard.  God's word is like that.  If we obey His word he will guide us one step at a time, keep us from harm and lead us in the right way.

We need to be aware of the dangers to following God's will.  Our enemy the Devil is out to discourage us, dishearten us, defeat us, depress us, and destroy us.  Now that you have chosen to follow God's will expect opposition!  The Christian Life is not a life of ease!  At times it is a battlefield.  Sometimes we are wounded in the fray.  We are like a soldier following his captain's orders.  It should come as no surprise that we are in a battle.  But our enemy will not defeat us if we listen to God's voice.

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.  In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your paths."  Proverbs 3:5-6
